Description
“Arte Nova e Curiosa para Conserveiros, Confeiteiros e Copeiros”, published in 1788, was the first pastry book to be printed in Portugal — and the third cookbook, also.
The author is unknown, and the book only has a single edition. However, its relatively obscure status in the annals of Portuguese food literature does not remove its importance as a valuable insight into the repertoire of 18th-century Portuguese confectionery.
With over 160 recipes, this book encompasses a wide variety of sweets, such as jams, fruit preserves, marmalades, cakes, biscuits, blancmanges, syrups, pastries, hard candy, conventual sweets, and even ice cream and sorbets.
This e-book is only available in Portuguese (PT).
